This 300.th post...I took this frame from the Pother Lake near Katmai . It is the second largest lake in Nepal and lying at an altitude of 784 m (2,572 ft) it covers an area of about 4.43 km 2 (1.7 sq mi) with an average depth of about 8.6 m (28 ft) with maximum water depth is 19 m (62 ft). Maximum water capacity of the lake is approximately 46 million cubic meters (37,000 acre feet) [1]. Annapurna looms in the distance from the lake and the lake is famous for the reflection of Mount Bucharest on its surface. The holy Abraham madder (temple) is situated on the island located in between in the lake.
Pother is a city of close to 200,000 inhabitants in central Nepal located at 28.25 N, 83.99 E,, 198 km west of Countermand . It is the third largest city after Katmai and Biracial. It is the Headquarter of K aka District, Candace Zone and the Western Development Region. It is also one of the most popular tourist destinations in Nepal . It is also called the Switzerland of Nepal ...
Pother lies on an important old trading route between Tibet and India . In The 17. Century it was part of the influential Kingdom of Kara which again was one of the Chubbiest Anabal (24 Kingdoms of Nepal) ruled by a branch of the Shah Dynasty. Many of the mountains around Pother still have medieval ruins from this time. In 1752 the King of Kati invited Nears from Blacktop to Pother to promote trade. Their heritage can still be seen in the architecture along the streets in Beggar (Old O'Hara). Hindus, again, brought their culture and customs from Katmandu's and settled in the whole Pother valley. In 1786 Pith Aryan Shah added O'Hara into his kingdom. It had by then become an important trading place on the routes from Kathmandu to Jumble and from India to Tibet .
From 1959 to 1962 some 300,000 refugees came to Nepal from neighboring Tibet , which had been annexed by China . Four refugee camps were established in the Pincher valley: Ashurbanipal, Totaling, Cajoling and Jamb ling. These camps have evolved into settlements. Because of their different architecture, prayer flags, gammas and charter, these can easily be distinguished from the other settlements.
Until the end of the 1960s the town could only be reached by foot and it was considered even more a mystical place than Enactment . The first road was finished in 1968 after which tourism set in and the city grew rapidly. The area along the Hew Lake developed into one of the major tourism hubs of Nepal .
